Tekenstreken offers creative and fully catered for art courses in the Netherlands.
We take your creative input seriously but believe having a good time comes first.
Tekenstreken is an organisation consisting of artists and starting professionals. It was originally set up in the year 2000 offering catered drawing and painting courses in its unique location in the Netherlands. The drawing and painting courses are the main focus of Tekenstreken, however, recently initiatives have developed for further projects. For example, the organisation of expositions, the elaboration of courses by working with other professionals from the creative world and the development of professional trainings.
The courses are mostly given by Marloes Bomers.
Marloes studied fine arts at the Academy of Arts in Utrecht and at ‘ lAccademia di belle Arti in Bologna (Italy). She graduated in 1997 and currently lives and works as an artist in Amsterdam.
The main goal of Tekenstreken is to let participants work intensively on the visual arts, at a high level of concentration, in an environment that is relaxing, free of disturbance and away from the worries of everyday life.
Week/weekend cursus; weekend or week long course on request
Workshops groepen; For anyone who wants to be creative in a relaxed environment with friends, colleagues or family, Tekenstreken offers the possibility of booking a course or workshop in a time frame and structure that suits you..
Art course (week and weekend)
Tekenstreken offers an elaborate week course as well as weekend courses. These week and weekend courses are referred to as ‘ Tekenstreken weeks and weekends.
Certain other weekend courses that are planned are called ‘special weekends, meaning that these weekends have special themes or are taught in cooperation with different artists. Most of the time these weekends will be given a name so that they can be recognised, for example: Schrijversstreken.
Two important parts of the main Tekenstreken course are the technical and creative aspects of:
- working from perception;
- and working on what you can visualise/imagine.
Working on this contributes to the development of ones style. Sharing knowledge and enjoyment while working, in conjunction to the above, are essential to the Tekenstreken course. Groups are kept small, which makes personal tutoring possible. Everyone works at his or her own level and pace.
Working from perception
Learning how to look closer and better, by working from perception. For example: portrait and model drawing, still life and landscape. In directed assignments, different facets of drawing and painting will come to the attention. For instance, style and character, set up, proportion, composition, form, material, depth perception, etc.
Drawing is a pure and direct visual stimulation of expression, which makes it suitable for exploring and developing ones own style. The assignments therefore, start with drawing in order to create a good base for painting. During this part of the course ideas will be given for working from visualisation.
Working on what you can visualise
Many people do not know where to start or how they can improve their art work. They often get stuck in one style or one way of working. However, our memory is filled with pictures of events, thoughts, poems, music, stories, memories, photos, dreams, and so on. In the second part of the course, time is spent on how to work from this personal visual archive and how to use it as a starting point for drawings and paintings.

Location & Accommodation
The Achterhoek (literally meaning the back corner of the Netherlands) is known for its wooded areas, alternated by arable land and fields with an occasional farm. In this spacious and peaceful environment lies the Saxon farmhouse of Tekenstreken.
The farmhouse is rebuilt in a modern fashion without diminishing its charm. It is spacious throughout, with the open set-up of the different rooms. The art studio is situated on the second floor and covers about 72 square meters. The living room contains a cosy lounge with fireplace, a large dinner and writing table as well as a place for reading or watching television. The farmhouse contains an open kitchen attached to the living room where food is prepared.
Participants of the course stay in one of the comfortable bedrooms. These rooms offer room for one or two people. Aside from the basic sanitary facilities there is a sauna which can be used at will.
The garden is large and has a great view over the fields. It is used (weather permitting) for drawing and painting. There is also a tennis court, on which people can release some energy and have a game. In the garden there is big bomb fire where everyone can enjoy the beautiful Achterhoek evenings.
The surroundings give plenty of walking and cycling opportunities, for example: the old church paths, a castle route, the woodlands of Ruurlo, Lochem and Barchem, fen areas of Vragender and t Zwilbroek. The well known book market of Bredevoort and nearby cheese farms and pancake houses are also worth visiting. Information about activities and recreation in the area is available at the farmhouse.
